Brushed stainless steel security rosette. SKG-compliant core pull ring in timeless stainless steel for your front door

Brushed stainless steel security escutcheons are the most requested category for SKG-compliant cylinder protection on front and back doors. Stainless steel AISI 304 (18% chromium, 8% nickel) is used as an alloy, which is fundamentally different from a coating: there is no top layer that can wear off or rust, ensuring the escutcheon retains the same matte silver-grey tint for 30+ years. The brushed finish (Scotch Brite) conceals fingerprints on an escutcheon touched daily by residents and visitors. The built-in steel core pull ring behind the visible stainless steel escutcheon prevents core pulling attacks, one of the most common burglary methods in the Netherlands. An SKG-certified security escutcheon is often mandatory for the PKVW (Police Quality Mark for Safe Living) and home insurance with burglary coverage. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 28 brushed stainless steel security escutcheons from Intersteel, AXA, Hardbrass, and Nemef.

What is a nuclear pull attack and why is protection needed?

In a core pulling attack, a burglar drills a large screw or special spike into the cylinder and then uses a lever or pulling device to pull the entire cylinder out of the lock. This is done quickly (1-2 minutes without protection) and provides direct access to the lock mechanism, allowing the door to be easily opened. The core pulling ring behind an SKG rosette prevents this attack because the steel ring physically prevents the cylinder from being pulled out of the lock. The burglar must first overcome both the stainless steel rosette and the steel core pulling ring, which takes at least 3 minutes for SKG**® and 5 minutes for SKG***®. During that time, the chance of detection and intervention is significantly higher, and the burglar usually moves on to another target. For most terraced houses, SKG**® is sufficient; for corner houses and detached villas, SKG***® is recommended.

Shapes and designs

Round (Ø50-60 mm) is the most universal and requested shape. It suits classic villas as well as modern new builds, and most front door styles. Square (50×50 mm) suits modern minimalist front doors with a square handle rosette. Sleek geometric appearance. Oval (Ø50×70 mm) is an elegant intermediate variant between round and rectangular. It suits classic villas and 1930s homes. Rectangular (75×50 or 90×50 mm) suits modern aluminium front doors with a rectangular long backplate. All four shapes are available in SKG**® and SKG***® versions, in AISI 304 (standard) or AISI 316 marine-grade for coastal locations.

SKG**® vs SKG***®: which do you choose?

SKG**® (2 stars) offers a minimum of 3 minutes of resistance against core pulling attacks and is the PKVW minimum. Often mandatory for standard homeowners insurance with burglary coverage. Suitable for terraced houses, semi-detached houses, and apartments in normal residential areas where the risk of burglary is average. SKG***® (3 stars) offers 5 minutes of resistance with additional requirements against folding attacks, advanced drilling methods, and reinforced core pulling rings. Highly recommended for corner houses where the front door is accessible from multiple directions, detached villas with multiple access routes, homes in high-risk areas with higher burglary rates, or for those who desire maximum security. For insurance with enhanced burglary coverage (especially for valuable contents), SKG***® is sometimes mandatory.

Dimensions and execution

Diameter Ø50-70 mm for round version. PC recess fits standard European profile cylinder with 17 mm keyhole. Fixing via through-bolts (from the inside through the door to the outside). No external screws that can be loosened by burglars. Cylinder length: the cylinder must NOT protrude more than 3 mm beyond the rosette. With a greater overhang, the cylinder becomes a point of attack on which the burglar can apply leverage. Thickness 12-18 mm depending on model due to integrated steel core pull ring. Stainless steel quality AISI 304 for standard outdoor climates up to 10 km from the sea, AISI 316 marine-grade for coastal locations.

Stainless steel safety rosette in your facade

In white front doors: Stainless steel offers a subtle silver-grey accent. In wooden front doors (oak, smoked, mahogany): Stainless steel adds a neutral accent. In dark grey and anthracite front doors: A stainless steel rosette adds a light accent to dark canvas. In aluminium front doors: Stainless steel is the logical continuation of the aluminium material palette. In coastal locations within 10 km of the sea: choose AISI 316 marine-grade for 30+ years of maintenance-free use. In corner houses and detached villas: choose SKG***®. In terraced houses with standard insurance: SKG**® suffices for the PKVW quality mark.

Installation of stainless steel safety rosette

Remove the existing cylinder rosette or security rosette from the front and back of the door. Check the cylinder overhang. If it protrudes more than 3 mm, additional reinforcement is required. Install the new security rosette on the outside with the steel core pull ring facing outwards. Insert the supplied longer bolts through the steel core pull ring from the inside through the door. Tighten manually to avoid stripping the threads. Test by turning the cylinder 5 times. It should be without resistance; the rosette should be firmly secured without play. For PVC or aluminium front doors: use special aluminium mounting bolts. If in doubt, ask our specialists.

Maintenance of stainless steel safety rosette

Stainless steel is virtually maintenance-free: a damp microfiber cloth with mild soap is sufficient. Avoid scouring pads, steel wool, chlorine, ammonia, and acetone. These can cause pitting corrosion, even on stainless steel. For brushed stainless steel, always follow the direction of the brush. In coastal locations: rinse with fresh water once a month to prevent white salt deposits. Lubricate the cylinder (not the rosette) twice a year with graphite powder or lock spray. Never use WD-40 or oil.
