Matte nickel security rosette

A matte nickel security rosette is an SKG-certified cover element surrounding the profile cylinder of a front door with integrated core pull protection that prevents burglars from pulling out the cylinder. The reinforced steel core (10-15 mm thick) withstands core pull attacks for 3 minutes (SKG**) to 5 minutes (SKG***). 10x lower burglary risk compared to a standard rosette. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 2 SKG-certified models: Intersteel Security Rosette SKG3 Matte Nickel (3-star rating, electroplated matte nickel, affordable) and Formani LBVEIL-KT Solid security cylinder rosette PVD matte nickel (premium design brand, titanium PVD coating, 15+ years UV resistant). Order before 8:00 PM? Then your rosette will be on your doorstep the next working day.

A security rosette is an SKG-certified cover element surrounding the profile cylinder of a front door or heavy interior door. It features integrated core pull protection (KTB) that prevents burglars from pulling out the cylinder with special pullers (a common burglary method for Dutch front doors in 1990-2010, before KTB rosettes became standard). Unlike a standard cylinder rosette (an aesthetic cover element of 5-7 mm thickness), a security rosette has a reinforced steel core (10-15 mm thick) that resists core pulling attacks. Matte nickel is the muted satin silver finish that suits classic villas, townhouses, and monumental front doors where a warm silver tone is desired instead of cold chrome or matte stainless steel. In the matte nickel security rosette collection from Deurbeslag Expert, you will find two SKG-certified models. From Intersteel (Dutch since 1959. Security rosette with core pull protection SKG3 in Matte Nickel) and Formani (Dutch premium design brand. LBVEIL-KT Solid security cylinder rosette in PVD matte nickel).

What exactly is core pull protection?

An important security feature explained. Core pulling attack. A burglary method in which a burglar uses a special screw puller (available in any standard tool shop for 30-50 euros) to pull the profile cylinder out of the lock. With a standard cylinder escutcheon without KTB, this can be done in 30-60 seconds, allowing the burglar direct access to the lock mechanism and enabling them to unlock the bolt with a screwdriver. KTB operation: a security escutcheon with KTB has a reinforced steel ring around the cylinder passage, supported by a thick steel core (typically 10-15 mm). A burglar can no longer pull the cylinder out because the steel ring holds them back. The SKG certification requires a minimum resistance time: SKG** is 3 minutes, SKG*** is 5 minutes. Practical impact: a home with a KTB security escutcheon has a 10x lower burglary risk compared to a standard escutcheon (police statistics).

Two SKG-certified versions

Both models in this collection are SKG-certified with integrated core pull protection. Intersteel Security Rosette SKG3 Matte Nickel. Three-star SKG seal of approval, tested for 5 minutes of resistance against a targeted burglary attempt with hand tools (drill, crowbar, lock puller). Matte nickel electroplated surface with reinforced steel core. For those seeking villa-grade front door security at an affordable price point (typically 35-50 euros). Formani LBVEIL-KT Solid security cylinder rosette PVD matte nickel. Premium designer brand version with a solid cast brass base and titanium PVD coating. 'LBVEIL' is the Formani product code; 'KT' stands for Core Pull Protection. PVD coating provides 15+ years of UV resistance without color loss. For those investing in a 25+ year front door package (typically 80-120 euros per piece).

SKG**® or SKG***® quality mark?

It is important to understand which certification level suits your situation. SKG**® (two stars). 3 minutes of resistance. Meets the PKVW minimum (Police Quality Mark for Safe Living) and that of most insurers for contents coverage. For the average Dutch front door in a neighborhood without an increased risk of burglary. SKG***® (three stars). 5 minutes of resistance. Intersteel SKG3 version in this collection. Required for villa insurance with a premium discount, for front doors directly on the street in back street or inner-city areas, and with the maximum anti-burglary package. Insurance question: ask your insurer specifically which SKG level is required for your home. Some insurers accept SKG**, others require SKG***. When in doubt: choose SKG***. Typically costs 10-20 euros extra but provides greater security and can result in a premium discount.

Shape choice: round, square, or rectangular?

Security rosettes are available in various shapes. Round (see matte nickel round security rosette sub-collection). Ø60-70 mm common. Matches round handle rosettes, classic front doors, 1930s house style. Square. 60×60 mm common. Matches square handle rosettes, modern contemporary front doors. Rectangular. Elongated version 60×80 mm or longer. For a specific look. Visual consistency: for the most harmonious facade appearance, choose the same shape for your security rosette as your standard door hardware rosettes. In practice: round versions are more commonly chosen because they are visually softer and suit more classic front door styles. Square versions for specifically modern, sleek interiors.

Matte nickel electroplating versus PVD technique

The two versions in this collection differ in the matte nickel finish technique. Intersteel matte nickel electroplated. Electroplated nickel layer on a solid brass or steel core. 600-800 HV hardness, 3-5 years UV resistant on a south-facing front door. This is sufficient for the average Dutch front door. Formani matte nickel PVD. Italian premium technique where titanium nitride is vapor-deposited under vacuum. 4000-4500 HV hardness (5-10× stronger), 15+ years UV resistant without color loss. For a villa-grade front door directly exposed to south sun and rain. Practically visible difference: electroplated nickel may show slight discoloration at the cylinder pass-through edge (where rainwater accumulates) after 5 years; PVD remains unchanged for 15+ years, even in rain and UV. Investment question: for a 25+ year front door package, choose PVD; For a 10-year front door replacement, galvanic cleaning is sufficient.

Compatibility with your profile cylinder

Three dimensions determine whether a security rosette fits your front door. Cylinder pass-through recess: 17 mm round for profile cylinder (European standard). Both versions fit. Rosette outer dimensions: Ø60-70 mm round, or 60×60 mm square (see other subcategories). Measure the existing security rosette when replacing it. Rosette thickness: 10-15 mm due to the steel core reinforcement for core pulling resistance. Drilling distance: 38 mm center-to-center, Dutch standard. Measure existing holes when replacing. Front door panel thickness: 38-60 mm, common. Both versions fit standard front door thicknesses. Compatibility with cylinder length: important. The profile cylinder must be exactly centered in the rosette recess. Not protruding (gives a burglar grip) and not recessed too deeply (problems with key operation). If in doubt, have a locksmith measure the cylinder length and provide advice.

Combine with other nickel security fittings

The security rosette is one component of a complete burglar-resistant front door version. Matte nickel round security rosette sub-category for specific round versions. Security rosette head hub for all colors and shapes. Security hardware hub for all SKG-certified hardware. Matte nickel front door hardware for matching complete escutcheon version. Matte nickel front door knob for matching fixed knob. Nickel back door hardware set for matching handle/handle version. SKG 3-star cylinders for matching PC72/PC92 cylinder. For matching interior door rosettes: nickel rosettes, nickel profile cylinder rosette round. For other color security rosettes: chrome security rosette, brushed stainless steel security rosette, black security rosette. Hubs: nickel door hardware, matte nickel door hardware.

Maintenance and lifespan

Security escutcheons are directly exposed to the weather elements on the front door and require specific maintenance attention for lasting burglary protection. Intersteel matte nickel galvanic: use a damp microfiber cloth once a month; for fingerprints, use a drop of neutral soap, then wipe dry. Avoid ammonia, acetone, vinegar, and chlorine-based cleaners. These can dull the galvanic coating over time. Formani matte nickel PVD: a damp microfiber cloth once a month is sufficient. The PVD coating is self-cleaning due to its hydrophobic properties; there are no specific cleaning requirements. With both: do not use polish paste (it scratches the matte structure). Screw check: important once a year. Loose screws reduce the effective core pull resistance. When turning the escutcheon during a force test: tighten an extra 1/8 turn. Cylinder mechanism lubrication: 2 times a year, dry Teflon or graphite spray into the key opening (NOT WD-40 or oil. Attracts dust and causes the pin mechanism to seize).
