Stainless Steel Cylinder Locks
Stainless steel cylinder locks. Corrosion-resistant mortise locks with SKG-compliant burglary resistance for front and back doors
Stainless steel cylinder locks are the logical choice for front and back doors where maximum durability must be combined with SKG-approved burglary resistance. Stainless steel AISI 304 or AISI 316 in the faceplate does not rust, does not yellow, and remains sleek for years. Even on doors exposed to rain, salt, and intensive use. A cylinder lock is a mortise lock with an opening for a European profile cylinder (PC cylinder). The cylinder itself is purchased separately and used with a key for locking. For SKG certification conformity, you must choose both the lock itself and the cylinder that are SKG**® or SKG***® certified. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 6 stainless steel cylinder locks from Intersteel, AXA , and Nemef.
When do you choose a stainless steel cylinder lock?
For front and back doors where insurance requires an SKG certification for burglary coverage. Home insurance policies usually refer to SKG**® as the PKVW minimum. For exterior doors leading to the garden, balcony, or garage where regular weather exposure occurs. The stainless steel faceplate remains sleek without rust formation. For commercial building doors with intensive public use where the lock is operated multiple times a day. For modern villas with a stainless steel theme throughout the home, where the lock visually matches other stainless steel hardware. When replacing worn-out old cylinder locks. The stainless steel version provides 30+ years of maintenance-free operation. For interior doors, a cylinder lock is usually not necessary. A latch lock (latch only, no locking mechanism) or a lever lock (key lock) suffices there.
SKG quality mark and cylinder selection
An SKG-compliant front door system requires two components: the cylinder lock itself (this cluster) plus the PC cylinder, which you select separately. Both must be SKG**® (3-minute resistance, PKVW minimum) or SKG***® (5-minute resistance, for corner houses and high-risk areas) for compliance. Without an SKG cylinder, an SKG lock is ineffective. The lock alone protects against one type of attack; the cylinder protects against another type (core pulling attack). Combine with an SKG security rosette on the outside of the door for complete core pulling protection. Cylinder overhang maximum 3 mm. With a larger overhang, the cylinder becomes a point of attack for burglars.
Dimensions and execution
Backset 50, 55, or 60 mm. Distance from the side of the door to the center of the spindle. The standard Dutch front door is 55 or 60 mm; interior door is 50 mm. PC size 55, 72, or 92 mm. Center-to-center distance between the handle hole and the cylinder hole in the lock. The standard modern front door is PC 72 mm; heavy panel doors are PC 92 mm. Always check both the PC size and backset of your existing lock before ordering. Faceplate with stainless steel finish. Typical length 235 mm for a standard mortise lock. Strike plate distance at the standard frame position. When renovating an existing lock, it usually fits directly; otherwise, adjust the strike plate position. Square spindle 8 mm is the Dutch standard for modern door handles.
Types and versions
The day-and-night lock is the most common version. Day bolt (bolt that automatically retracts upon operation of the handle) plus night bolt (lockable with a key via the cylinder). For standard front and back doors. Mortise lock without cylinder locking but with a cylinder hole for separate purchase. For those who choose the SKG cylinder themselves or for replacement where the existing cylinder must be retained. Multi-point locking system for front doors with the highest level of security. Locks at multiple points in the frame simultaneously (top, middle, bottom) when the key is turned shut. Anti-core pulling version prevents the cylinder from being pulled out of the lock during an attempted burglary. Particularly relevant in combination with an SKG**® or SKG***® cylinder.

Stainless steel cylinder lock in your door
In a white-lacquered front door: a stainless steel faceplate serves as a subtle silver-grey accent that matches the other stainless steel hardware on the facade. In a wooden back door leading to the garden: stainless steel provides a neutral accent that does not clash with the natural wood colour. In an aluminium front door in modern new-builds: stainless steel is the logical continuation of the material palette. In coastal locations within 10 km of the sea: choose AISI 316 marine-grade for chloride resistance. Particularly relevant for a back door that is regularly exposed to rain. In corner houses and detached villas: combine with an SKG***® cylinder for maximum burglary resistance.

Installation and maintenance
Remove the old lock by unscrewing the screws on the faceplate and sliding the lock out of the lock case recess. Check that the backset and PC dimension of the new lock match the recess and cylinder opening in the door. Slide the new lock in and secure it to the faceplate with stainless steel screws. Insert the cylinder through both holes in the lock. Secure it with the cylinder mounting screw from the bottom of the lock. Test by closing and locking the lock 5 times. Maintenance: Clean the visible faceplate once a month with a microfiber cloth and lukewarm water in the direction of the brush strokes. Avoid scouring pads, ammonia, acetone, and chlorine. Lubricate the locking mechanism twice a year with graphite powder or Teflon lock lubricant. Never use WD-40 or oil.
