Brushed stainless steel back door hardware on escutcheon. SKG-compliant burglary protection for the rear of your home

Brushed stainless steel back door hardware on an escutcheon is the most requested version for back doors in the Netherlands. Corrosion-resistant stainless steel AISI 304 with a brushed finish that hides fingerprints, combined with SKG-certified core pull protection for burglary resistance. Statistically, the back door is a burglary point just as often as the front door (according to police figures, approximately 30-35% of home burglaries occur via the back door), making SKG-approved stainless steel back door hardware an investment that delivers both security and aesthetics. For coastal locations within 10 km of the sea, AISI 316 marine-grade is highly recommended for chloride resistance. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 17 models of brushed stainless steel back door hardware from Intersteel, Hardbrass , and Formani in SKG**® and SKG***® versions.

Why the SKG quality mark on the back door?

Many homeowners insurance policies require SKG-compliant locks and fittings on both main entrances (front door and back door) for burglary coverage. SKG**® (2 stars) offers a minimum of 3 minutes of resistance against core pulling attacks and is the PKVW minimum. Often mandatory for standard insurance. SKG***® (3 stars) offers 5 minutes of resistance with additional requirements against folding attacks and advanced drilling methods. Highly recommended for back doors opening onto an accessible path, yard, or public space. For back doors opening onto a well-enclosed garden with a high fence, SKG**® suffices; for back doors in high-risk areas or those directly bordering public areas, choose SKG***®. For a back door opening onto a communal courtyard in an apartment complex, SKG***® is recommended due to higher accessibility.

Types and versions

SKG**® stainless steel version with core pull ring: 3 minutes resistance, suitable for standard terraced houses and semi-detached houses with enclosed gardens. SKG***® stainless steel version with reinforced core pull ring: 5 minutes resistance, for corner houses, detached villas, homes in high-risk areas, and back doors facing public areas. Solid stainless steel long escutcheon without SKG mark: heavy-duty stainless steel escutcheon that lacks SKG certification but offers a robust appearance. Suitable for interior doors in stairwells, or for commercial building back doors where PKVW certification is not critical. AISI 316 marine grade for coastal locations within 10 km of the sea. Additional molybdenum to protect against chloride attack from salty air.

stainless steel back door hardware in your home

For a white-lacquered back door to the garden: a stainless steel escutcheon provides a subtle silver-grey accent. For a wooden back door (oak, mahogany): stainless steel adds a neutral accent that does not clash with the natural wood colour. For an aluminium back door in modern new-builds: stainless steel is the logical continuation of the material palette. For a steel garden door or industrial door: stainless steel complements the steel material palette. For consistency between the front and back doors: choose the same stainless steel finish on both sides (same brand, same finish shade, same SKG level). For garden doors subject to regular weathering: AISI 316 marine-grade for extra durability against direct rain and sun. In coastal homes: AISI 316 for chloride resistance.

Installation of stainless steel back door hardware on escutcheon

Remove the existing back door hardware on both sides of the door. Check if the PC dimension and backset of the new hardware match the existing cylinder lock. If the dimensions differ, you must also replace the lock. Slide the spindle through the handle hole in the door. Place the outer and inner escutcheons against each other and align the screw holes. Secure from the inside through the door to the outside using the supplied through-bolts. Tighten manually. Keep the second key (for SKG cylinders) in a safe place inside for emergencies. Test by closing, opening, and locking the door 5 times. Everything must work without resistance.

Maintenance of stainless steel back door hardware

Clean once a month with a microfiber cloth and lukewarm water in the direction of the brush pattern. Avoid scouring pads, steel wool, chlorine, ammonia, and acetone. These can cause pitting corrosion. For fingerprints: use pH-neutral soap and rinse thoroughly, then wipe dry immediately. For coastal locations: rinse with fresh water once a month to remove white salt deposits. Lubricate the cylinder twice a year with graphite powder or lock spray. Never use WD-40 or oil. Check once a year that the through-bolts are still securely tightened.
