The polished brass security rosette is the main collection of cylinder rosettes for the front door cylinder hole, made of solid brass with a mirror-polished finish. Through progressive polishing with increasingly finer polishing paste, the surface exhibits a high-gloss mirror appearance. Without a protective lacquer layer, the brass is allowed to patina freely over 2-5 years to a warmer golden-brown under the influence of air oxide and hand contact. The rosette visually covers the cylinder hole and can (in the SKG version with core pull protection) contain a recessed steel ring that blocks core pulling attacks. Polished vs other brass finishes

At the time of purchase, polished and lacquered look identical (both mirror-finish), but the long-term performance is completely different:

Polished (this range). No protective layer, patinates to a warmer golden-brown in 2-5 years; natural aging, restoreable with brass polish.
Lacquered. Acrylic coating for a stable mirror tint of 5-10 years; no patination and no maintenance.
Tumbled. Soft matte surface due to mechanical polishing drum, no factory shine.
Unlacquered. Open brass with factory shine, freely patinable.
Titanium-PVD. Physical-vapor-deposition coating, 15+ years UV-stable.

What does core pull protection do?

Core pulling protection consists of a recessed steel ring around the cylinder core, firmly embedded in the rosette. During an attempted burglary, the burglar tries to gain a grip on the cylinder core with a screw or claw wrench to pull it out of the lock (core pulling attack. Responsible for approximately 60% of successful cylinder burglaries in the Netherlands). The hardened steel core pulling ring blocks this grip; in combination with an SKG3 cylinder lock, this is the standard protection for residential front doors according to the Police Quality Mark for Safe Living.

Three dimensions determine the fit: PC dimension of the cylinder hole (55, 72, or 92 mm), cylinder pass-through diameter (Euro profile 17 mm standard), and door thickness (38-65 mm). Maintenance

For mirror shine: polish monthly with brass polish and a soft polishing cloth. For patination: only a damp microfiber cloth. Annually, put a drop of graphite lock lubricant in the cylinder keyhole (no oil or WD-40).
