Brushed stainless steel door knob on backplate
Brushed stainless steel door knob on backplate. Fixed knob with complete backplate for modern front and back doors
Brushed stainless steel door knob on backplate combines a fixed, non-rotating knob with a complete backplate that covers the lock, in a brushed matte finish made of stainless steel AISI 304 (18% chromium, 8% nickel). A fixed knob on the outside is essential for burglary resistance: the knob does not turn and therefore cannot be forced to retract the bolt. The door can only be opened with a key via the cylinder. The complete backplate fully covers the lock and gives the door a more formal and substantial appearance than separate rosettes. For coastal locations within 10 km of the sea, AISI 316 marine-grade is highly recommended for chloride resistance. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 4 brushed stainless steel door knobs on backplates from Intersteel.
When do you choose a button on a shield?
For front and back doors where you want a more formal, classic look than with separate rosettes. The escutcheon completely covers the lock and appears heavier. Suitable for monumental homes, classic homes with panel doors, and heavy back doors where the escutcheon visually complements the robust door appearance. For modern new builds with a minimalist look, usually choose the rosette version (brushed stainless steel front door knob with separate rosette). A sleeker design that matches other minimalist door elements. For the knob-on-handle version (fixed exterior knob + rotating interior handle): this is the gold standard for burglary resistance because the fixed knob cannot be forced from the inside. For situations where heavy escutcheon hardware fits: this cluster.
Dimensions and execution
PC size 72 or 92 mm. Center-to-center distance between handle hole and cylinder opening. Standard modern front doors have a PC of 72 mm; heavy panel doors often have a PC of 92 mm. Always check the PC size of your existing cylinder lock before ordering. Escutcheon height 240-320 mm depending on model. Longer escutcheons for heavier doors. Knob diameter 65-80 mm depending on shape. Mushroom, round, cylindrical, or flush. Lock backset 50, 55, or 60 mm. Square spindle 8 mm Dutch standard. Mounting bolts included in the same stainless steel finish. Stainless steel quality AISI 304 for standard outdoor climates up to 10 km from the sea, AISI 316 marine-grade for coastal locations.

Stainless steel knob on escutcheon in your home
In modern front doors with white-lacquered or anthracite aluminium: a stainless steel knob on a backplate provides a subtle silver-grey accent with a classic look. In industrial lofts with steel front doors: stainless steel complements other steel elements and has a robust appearance. In monumental homes with wooden panel doors: a knob on a backplate suits classic proportions. In coastal homes within 10 km of the sea: choose AISI 316 marine-grade. In commercial buildings subject to intensive daily use: stainless steel offers exceptional durability against strong cleaning agents. For a modern minimalist home with aluminium frames, the rosette version is usually chosen. It is sleeker and matches other aluminium elements.

Installation and maintenance
Remove existing front door hardware on both sides of the door. Check that the PC size and backset of the new set match the existing cylinder lock. Slide the spindle through the handle hole in the door. Place the outer plate with knob and the inner plate with handle against each other. Secure with the supplied through-bolts from the inside through the door to the outside. Tighten manually. Test by closing, opening, and locking 5 times. Clean once a month with a microfiber cloth and lukewarm water in the direction of the brush strokes. Avoid scouring pads, ammonia, acetone, and chlorine. For coastal locations: rinse with fresh water once a month. Lubricate the cylinder twice a year with graphite or lock spray. Never use WD-40.
