Brushed stainless steel door knob. Fixed, non-rotating knob in corrosion-resistant stainless steel

A brushed stainless steel doorknob is a fixed, non-rotating knob for interior doors, front doors, and passage doors where locking via a handle operation is not required. A fixed knob does not rotate and therefore cannot be turned to retract the bolt. For interior doors, this is purely aesthetic (knob for opening and closing without a lock function); for front doors, a fixed exterior knob is essential for burglary protection because it cannot be forced from the inside. Stainless steel AISI 304 (18% chromium, 8% nickel) is an alloy that retains the same brushed matte silver-grey shade for 30+ years without coating chipping or discoloration. The neutral silver-grey shade matches almost every door color and interior style. For people with nickel allergies: the nickel in stainless steel is bound within the alloy and does not leach out upon normal hand contact. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 11 brushed stainless steel doorknobs from Intersteel, Aprile , and Olivari.

When do you choose a fixed button?

For passage doors between rooms where no locking is required: a knob purely for opening and closing without a lock mechanism. For bedroom doors where you want a simple look without a handle mechanism. For closet doors and storage cupboard doors where opening and closing without a lock is sufficient. For front doors with a knob-on-handle design: a fixed knob on the outside + a rotating handle on the inside. This is the gold standard for burglary resistance because the outer knob cannot be forced from the inside. For balcony doors and back doors with a double cylinder where opening must be possible with a key only, both from the outside and the inside: a double knob-on-knob design. For heavy exterior doors where you want a more robust appearance: a fixed knob looks more formal than a handle.

Dimensions and execution

Knob diameter Ø45-60 mm common for interior doors, Ø50-70 mm for front door knobs. Backset 50, 55, or 60 mm depending on existing lock. The Dutch standard is 50 mm for interior doors. Square spindle 8 mm for knob-on-handle version (when the other side has a rotating handle). Mounting screw spacing 38 mm or 50 mm center-to-center. Rosette diameter Ø50-52 mm round or 50×50 mm square. Round is more universal, square suits modern minimalist doors. Stainless steel quality AISI 304 for standard indoor climates and outdoor applications up to 10 km from the sea. AISI 316 marine-grade for coastal locations closer to the sea. Knob shape mushroom (classic), spherical (traditional), cylindrical (modern), or square (architect-designed home).

Button shapes and styles

Mushroom shape is the most classic version. Flat disc with a bulge in the middle, comfortable to hold and suitable for almost any front door style. Spherical shape (fully round) has a traditional look that suits panel doors and classic villas. Cylindrical (round profile, flat front) suits modern new builds with aluminium frames. Sleek and contemporary. Square provides a clean geometric look for architect-designed homes. Knob-on-handle version for front door: fixed knob with mushroom or sphere shape on the outside + rotating curved or L-shaped handle on the inside. Knob-on-knob for passive balcony doors or garage doors where no handle operation from the inside is required.

Stainless steel door knob in your interior

In modern villas with white-lacquered interior doors: a stainless steel knob on cupboard doors and passage doors provides a subtle silver-grey accent. In industrial lofts with steel or glass interior doors: stainless steel complements the other steel materials. Choose a cylindrical or square knob for a modern look. In classic homes with panel doors: a mushroom or ball knob on cupboard doors or passage doors, often in combination with a classic curved handle on the other interior doors. In front doors with a knob-on-handle configuration: a fixed mushroom knob on the outside for burglary protection. In apartments where the dwelling typically has 2-4 passage doors (cupboard door, passage to hallway, garage access): a stainless steel knob is a safe, universal choice. In coastal locations within 10 km of the sea: choose AISI 316 marine-grade.

Installation of stainless steel door knob

Dismantle existing handle or knob: remove screws on the inside of the rosette. For knob-on-handle front door version: slide the 8 mm square spindle through the handle hole of the lock. Place the knob on the outside and the handle on the inside. Tighten the set screw or patent bolts by hand. For knob-on-knob for walk-through doors: place the knob directly onto the short spindle in the handle hole; no mechanism is required. Mount the rosettes with M4 screws (typically 25 mm length) or via snap fastening. Test by fully closing and opening 5 times. The knob must remain firmly in place without rotation and without play.

Maintenance of stainless steel door knob

Clean once a month with a microfiber cloth and lukewarm water in the direction of the brush pattern. Cross-brushing can leave scratch patterns. Avoid scouring pads, steel wool, chlorine, ammonia, and acetone. These can cause pitting corrosion. For fingerprints: use pH-neutral soap and rinse thoroughly, then wipe dry immediately. For coastal locations: rinse with fresh water once a month to remove white salt deposits. For front door knob-on-handle applications: lubricate the cylinder twice a year with graphite powder or lock spray. Never use oil or WD-40. Rust formation on AISI 304 in a normal residential climate is exceptional.
