Round stainless steel key escutcheon. Timeless corrosion-resistant escutcheon for lever doors

The round stainless steel key escutcheon is the most popular choice in the Netherlands. The timeless shape suits almost every door style, from classic villas with panel doors to modern new-builds with sleek interior doors. A key escutcheon covers the keyhole opening of lever doors and gives the door a finished look around the keyhole. AISI 304 stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and retains the same brushed or polished finish for 30+ years without discoloration. It is not a coating that can wear off, but an alloy with chromium and nickel that is fundamentally different from ordinary chrome-plated or gold-plated versions. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 38 round stainless steel key escutcheons from Intersteel, Aprile, Olivari , and Impresso.

When do you choose the round version?

The round shape is the most universal choice. Visually, it suits classic villas as well as modern interiors. For classic interior doors with panel details or 1930s ornamentation, the round rosette complements the curved lines of classic door hardware. It is also suitable for round door handles on a round rosette. Most popular in the renovation of older homes, the round key rosette is the logical match. For minimalist interiors where you do not opt for the extreme starkness of square shapes, a round key rosette is a softening choice. For the renovation of existing round key rosettes, the new round rosette often fits the same drill holes without rework. This is convenient when you want to modernize an entire home without extensive remodeling. For architect-designed homes with an explicitly square design, the square key rosette is often a more suitable option.

Dimensions and execution

AISI 316 is rarely required for indoor key escutcheons. Fastening: M4 screws through both holes in the door. Countersunk head for a flush finish. Finish: brushed (common, low-fingerprint) or polished (less common, shinier).

Installation of stainless steel round key rosette

Remove the old key escutcheon by unscrewing the screws on the door. Usually, there are two screws at the top and bottom of the escutcheon, sometimes hidden under a protective layer. Check if the drilling distance of the new escutcheon (38 mm center-to-center standard) matches the existing drill holes. If the distance differs: fill the old holes with wooden plugs and glue, then mark the new holes and pre-drill with a Ø3 mm wood drill bit. Align the escutcheon with the keyhole of the lock. Check that the key bit opening fits the lock correctly. Manually tighten the M4 screws until the escutcheon sits firmly against the door. Test by inserting the key 5 times and operating the lock. The key should enter the lock without resistance.

Maintenance of stainless steel round key escutcheon

Clean once a month with a microfiber cloth and lukewarm water in the direction of the brush pattern. Avoid scouring pads, ammonia, acetone, and chlorine-based cleaners. These attack stainless steel and can eventually cause pitting. For fingerprints: use pH-neutral soap and rinse thoroughly, then wipe dry immediately. Rust on AISI 304 in a normal indoor climate is exceptional. Lubricate the lock mechanism (not the rosette itself) once a year with graphite powder or special lock spray. Never use oil or grease.
