Stainless steel wall-mounted mailbox. Timeless stainless steel for every facade

A stainless steel wall-mounted letterbox is the modern standard for those who choose lasting quality and a sleek appearance for their exterior wall. Stainless steel AISI 304 is corrosion-resistant in standard indoor climates and outdoor applications up to approximately 10 km from the sea; AISI 316 (marine-grade) features added molybdenum for chloride resistance in coastal locations closer than 10 km to the sea. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 6 stainless steel wall-mounted letterboxes from Intersteel in both brushed and polished finishes.

Why stainless steel for your wall-mounted mailbox?

Stainless steel offers an exceptional lifespan in outdoor applications of 25 to 30+ years without visible discoloration or corrosion. In a normal indoor climate, it is even unlimited. AISI 304 is the standard quality for the Dutch interior, while AISI 316 is suitable for salty air on the coast. Stainless steel is practically indestructible, weather-resistant, and resistant to vandalism. The neutral silver-gray tint complements any facade color, from classic brick to modern aluminum frames, and from white stucco walls to dark anthracite facades. Maintenance is minimal: wiping monthly with lukewarm water and a microfiber cloth is sufficient for a sleek appearance for years to come. For salty coastal environments, rinsing with fresh water is recommended to avoid white salt deposits.

Stainless steel finishes and designs

Brushed stainless steel is the most popular finish. The fine brush strokes conceal fingerprints and minor scratches, and visually complement brushed fixtures and towel rails in modern interiors. Polished stainless steel (mirror finish) has a glossy appearance chosen for commercial applications and luxury villas. However, it requires more intensive maintenance because fingerprints and water stains are more visible. The newspaper roll version offers extra space under the box for folded newspapers and brochures. The nameplate version features an integrated window for a house number or name card. Attractive for representative front doors.

Dimensions and execution

Letter slot minimum 230×35 mm for the passage of A4 envelopes and standard magazines without folding. A box depth of 50–100 mm is sufficient for daily mail; 150 mm or more for parcels and large envelopes. Secured with stainless steel plugs (Ø8 mm) and M5 stainless steel screws in a solid surface. For brick, pre-drill with a masonry drill; for concrete, use a hammer drill. Height 70–170 cm above ground level in accordance with PostNL guidelines for delivery convenience. For a disabled-friendly front door: height 90–120 cm for wheelchair accessibility.

Stainless steel wall-mounted mailbox in your facade

In modern new-builds with aluminium frames and sleek facade panels: stainless steel visually complements the aluminium look and matches virtually any front door colour. In classic homes with brick facades: brushed stainless steel appears calm next to the natural colour of brick and matches white or anthracite frames. In industrial lofts with black steel and concrete: stainless steel adds a light accent to a dark materials palette. In coastal homes within 10 km of the sea: choose AISI 316 marine-grade. The extra molybdenum resists the chloride attack of salty air better than standard AISI 304. In monumental villas with classic front door elements: polished stainless steel next to dark wood for a luxurious contrast.

Installation of stainless steel wall mailbox

First, mark the desired height (70–170 cm above ground level) and horizontal position on the facade. Use a spirit level for exact alignment. Hold the container against the facade to mark the drilling points with a pencil through the mounting holes. Drill with the correct drill bit: masonry drill bit for brick, hammer drill bit for concrete, wood drill bit for wooden facades. Insert stainless steel plugs (Ø8 mm) into the holes and drive them flush with the wall surface. Hang the container and screw M5 stainless steel screws through the mounting holes into the plugs. Tighten manually to avoid misalignment. Test whether the flap opens and closes smoothly and whether mail passes through the slot without jamming.

Maintenance of stainless steel wall mailbox

Clean once a month with lukewarm water and a microfiber cloth in the direction of the brush pattern. Cross-brushing can leave cross patterns that remain visible. Avoid scouring pads, ammonia, acetone, and chlorine-based cleaners. These cause scratching and visible streaks on stainless steel. In coastal locations: rinse thoroughly with fresh water once a month to remove white salt deposits. Dry immediately afterwards to prevent water stains. Lubricate hinges and, if applicable, the lock twice a year with PTFE spray (silicone spray). Never use oil or grease that attracts dust. Rust formation on AISI 304 or 316 is exceptional in a normal indoor climate; clean immediately at the first signs to prevent corrosion spread.
