Brass tumbled front door fittings

Tumbled brass front door hardware is SKG3 security hardware for front doors in which solid brass has been given a mechanically tumbled finish. Through rotary tumbling with ceramic grinding stones, the surface acquires a soft, matte appearance. It combines burglary protection with a classic warm gold look and is recommended for residential front doors as the standard security level (5 minutes burglary resistance). At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 15 tumbled brass front door hardware sets from Intersteel (PC72/92 oval and Jura with core pull protection) and Hardbrass (Pragma/Silvia, QBE, Charley/Zenith, and Round with Letter Plate in 3-piece sets). All are SKG3 certified. Order before 8:00 PM? Then it will be on your doorstep the next working day. For advice, send a photo of the front door and existing hardware to info@deurbeslag-expert.nl.

Tumbled brass front door hardware. SKG3 security hardware with a soft-matte tumbled finish

Tumbled brass front door hardware is security hardware for the front door in which solid brass has been given a mechanically tumbled finish. Through rotary tumbling with ceramic grinding stones, all corners are rounded, giving the surface a soft, matte appearance with natural shadow effects. The hardware thus combines the burglary protection function (PC cylinder hole, core pull protection, fixed knob or handle on the outside + lever on the inside) with the classic warm gold look of brass. The SKG3 certification means tested for 5 minutes of burglary resistance and conforms to the Police Security Mark for Safe Living, recommended for residential front doors as the standard security level.

At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 15 tumbled brass front door hardware sets from Intersteel (PC72/92 versions oval and Jura handle with anti-pull protection) and Hardbrass (Pragma/Silvia, QBE, Charley/Zenith, and Rond with Letter Plate) in 3-piece sets with cylinder lock including keys and SKG3 certificate. The exterior handle + interior knob configuration is standard for residential front doors; some sets include cylinder lock, strike plate, anti-pull rosette, and letter plate in a single package, allowing for the entire front door replacement in a single order.

SKG quality mark explained

The SKG quality mark classifies burglary resistance at three levels:

  • SKG1. 15 seconds resistance, minimum for interior door or outbuilding.
  • SKG**® (2 stars). 3 minutes resistance, minimum requirement for the Police Quality Mark for Safe Living for residential front door.
  • SKG***® (3 stars / SKG3). 5-minute resistance, recommended for villa-grade and residential homes with an elevated risk profile.

All front door hardware in this category is SKG3 certified. For maximum benefit from burglary resistance, the hardware must be combined with an SKG3 cylinder lock and an SKG3 door (solid wood or burglar-resistant synthetic material).

PC sizes. 55, 72 or 92

The PC dimension refers to the distance between the handle hole and the cylinder hole in the faceplate of the door lock:

  • PC55. For interior door with cylinder lock (no security function).
  • PC72. Standard for residential front door, fits SKG2/3 cylinder lock.
  • PC92. For heavy-duty security fittings or oversized cylinder locks.

Always measure the existing PC distance on the old front door hardware or lock before ordering. An incorrect PC means that the hardware will not align with the cylinder hole.

What is core pull protection

Core pull protection is a recessed steel rosette in the security fitting that prevents a burglar from securing a screw or claw key in the cylinder core and forcibly pulling it out of the lock. Core pull protection is mandatory for SKG3 classification. In this range, core pull protection is standard on all Intersteel Jura sets and Hardbrass front door sets.

How do you measure front door hardware

Four dimensions determine the fit: door thickness (38-65 mm), PC dimension (55/72/92), spindle size (8 mm square standard for front doors), and the overall handle/knob dimensions for visual balance. When replacing existing front door hardware, it is preferable to send a photo of the door dimensions and a photo of the old hardware with a ruler via info@deurbeslag-expert.nl for one-on-one advice.

Combine with the rest of your front door

A complete front door set consists of: front door hardware + cylinder lock + hinges + house numbers + letterbox + doorbell. In matching tumbled brass: Tumbled brass front door knob (alternative to exterior handle), Tumbled brass security rosette, Brass ball bearing, Brass house numbers, Brass letterboxes.

Or choose another finish

The same front door hardware package in an alternative brass finish: Lacquered brass front door hardware (mirror finish), Unlacquered brass front door hardware (patination-free), Polished brass front, Titanium-PVD brass front door hardware. Or in another color: Stainless steel front door hardware, Black front door hardware, Bronze front door hardware.

Maintenance

Wipe the tumbled finish clean 1-2 times a month with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap. Do not use a scouring pad, ammonia, acetone, chlorine, or brass polish, as these would disrupt the tumbled structure. The solid brass beneath the tumbled layer will patina to a warmer golden-brown over 5-15 years; a deliberate choice for those who want to see a natural progression or a PVD version for long-term colorfastness.
