Titanium PVD brass front door hardware is a premium-category security fitting for front doors with the PKVW standard. Common in villa-grade and architect projects where long-term durability and an authentic brass appearance are required. What is titanium PVD: titanium nitride PVD coating in a brass tint on a brass base. PVD stands for Physical Vapor Deposition. A high-vacuum technique in which titanium nitride is deposited atom by atom onto brass. Result: 4500 HV hardness (5-10× stronger than electroplated brass), UV resistant for 15+ years without fading, no patina formation. Versus electroplated brass: electroplated brass is UV resistant for 3-5 years; titanium PVD brass lasts 15+ years. Often cost-effective in the long term despite a ~3× higher purchase price. SKG3 certification: 5 minutes resistance to burglary with hand tools. Villa-grade. Common in detached new-builds, luxury villas, and architect-designed renovations. SKG3 security hardware is villa-grade security hardware. Higher resistance than SKG2 (PKVW minimum). SKG certification levels: SKG**® (SKG2): 3 minutes of resistance, PKVW Veilig Wonen minimum, most common in Dutch home renovations. SKG***® (SKG3): 5 minutes of resistance, villa-grade, common in detached new-builds, luxury villas, architect renovations, and specific insurer requirements. Two non-Helena models. Security hardware PC72mm Brass Titanium PVD (with core pull protection): standard PC72 version with SKG3 certification. For standard Dutch front doors with PC72 cylinder. Security hardware SKG3 Oval 250×50mm PC92 Handle/lever PVD Brass colour: oval version with PC92, combination handle (fixed handle on the outside for SKG compliance) and lever (rotating lever on the inside for exit). 250×50 mm size for wide front doors. Difference between handle/lever combination: Handle on the outside. Fixed non-rotating version that is SKG compliant (a rotating lever would facilitate burglary). Lever on the inside. Rotating lever to allow exit without cylinder operation from the inside. Fixing: through-through M5-M6 bolts through the door thickness plus counter-fixing element on the other side. For SKG3, continuous fastening is mandatory (anti-pry requirement).

PVD brass. Properties and durability

The PVD coating provides specific properties. Hardness: 4500 HV (Vickers hardness). 5-10 times harder than electroplated brass. Scratch-resistant due to everyday use. UV resistance: 15+ years without fading in normal outdoor applications. For a villa with direct sun exposure on the front door (south- or west-facing), the appearance remains stable for decades. No patina formation: PVD coating prevents the natural copper oxidation of the brass base. For those who do not desire patina evolution (modern look with a lasting gold shine).
