Lacquered brass front door knob
Lacquered brass front door knob. Fixed knob for front door in brass color with PVD or lacquered finish
A brass front door knob in this category is a fixed knob for the outside of the front door used to pull the door towards you. Locking is done via the cylinder lock key or the interior handle. Therefore, the knob does not turn. In this range, you will find brass-colored front door knobs in various finishes: brass PVD coating (physical vapor deposition, UV stable for 15+ years), antique brass (patinated), unlacquered brass (open brass that patinates), and as a reversible knob version. Matte nickel PVD. The combination offers a classic brass look for those who desire a permanently stable color (PVD) and for those who consciously choose patination (unlacquered, antique).
At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 11 front door knobs, primarily in brass tones from Intersteel (Heavy PVD front door knob brass colour, Mushroom PVD, Square 64×64 mm PVD, Ball ø75 mm PVD) and Artitec Mi Satori (Mushroom 60/70 mm in antique brass, unlacquered and PVD; Chemin de Fer in unlacquered; Toggle knob QUATTRO; Ball 60 mm matte nickel PVD). All knobs are solid metal (brass or steel with PVD), with standard M10 thread for mounting on SKG security hardware, suitable for front door thicknesses of 38-65 mm.
PVD vs. painted. What is the difference?
Two technologies for stable brass color, with strongly different properties:
- Brass PVD coating. Physical vapor deposition with titanium nitride and brass pigment, 0.8-2 microns thick, hardness 4000-4500 HV, UV stable for 15+ years. Not susceptible to patination, scratch-resistant.
- Lacquered brass. Acrylic lacquer coating on polished solid brass, color stable for 5-10 years. May show slight discoloration after 8+ years under extreme sun exposure.
For a south-facing front door or intensive use, PVD is recommended; for north-facing and inward-facing front doors, lacquered is sufficient.
Front door knob vs front door handle
Two front door hardware conventions:
- Exterior knob + interior handle (classic, this range). Knob cannot be pressed, locking via lock cylinder, belongs to a front door with SKG security hardware.
- Exterior handle + interior handle (modern). Handle operates lock from both sides; applies to interior door and back door without security function.
How do you measure a front door knob
Three dimensions determine fit: door thickness (38-65 mm), bore (8 or 12 mm square. Measure existing knob spindle), and knob diameter (60-90 mm depending on model). M10 thread is standard for mounting on SKG security hardware. If in doubt about compatibility with existing front door hardware, please send a photo to info@deurbeslag-expert.nl.
Combine with matching front door hardware
The front door knob combines with: Lacquered brass front door hardware, Lacquered brass security rosette, Brass titanium PVD door hardware (for PVD set matching), All brass door hardware. For facade accessories: Brass house numbers, Brass mailboxes, Brass doorbells.
Or choose another finish
Front door knob in alternative brass finish: Unlacquered brass front door knob (patinates-free), Tumbled brass front door knob (soft matte). In other colors: Stainless steel front door knob, Black front door knob, Bronze front door knob, Chrome front door knob.
Maintenance
PVD version: damp microfiber cloth with mild soap, avoid scouring pads and acetone; 15+ years maintenance-free. Lacquered version: same, no brass polish or ammonia (would damage the lacquer layer). Antique/unlacquered versions accept brass polish for deliberate shine preservation or may be allowed to patina freely.
