What exactly is brass titanium PVD?
Titanium PVD brass is brass hardware finished with a titanium nitride PVD coating. In this technique, short for physical vapor deposition, a layer of titanium nitride is deposited onto the brass core in a vacuum chamber. The result is a coating with a hardness of approximately 4500 HV that retains the warm brass color but is much more resistant to scratches and wear. The finish remains colorfast for 15 years or longer under the influence of sunlight and does not develop a patina. As a result, you retain the brass look without the associated maintenance.
The difference compared to traditional brass therefore lies primarily in durability and ease of maintenance. While unlacquered brass discolors over time and requires regular polishing, titanium PVD brass remains virtually unchanged. A damp microfiber cloth is sufficient to keep the hardware looking good. The purchase price is approximately two to three times higher than that of electroplated brass, but the hardware also lasts three to five times longer. What is the difference compared to electroplated brass?
The difference compared to electroplated brass lies in hardness, colorfastness, and maintenance. Electroplated brass is a common, electrolytically applied coating with a hardness of approximately 500 HV, which retains its color for about three to five years indoors and five to eight years on an exposed front door. With daily use, this layer can become scratched, and with an unlacquered version, a natural patina develops over time. As a result, electroplated brass requires more attention and touch-ups. It suffices for a simple, affordable solution, but falls short in the long run.
Titanium brass PVD actually plays in a higher class. With a hardness of around 4500 HV, the coating is virtually scratch-resistant under normal use, and the color remains stable for 15 years or longer without fading. No patina develops, so the appearance remains the same for decades. For a villa renovation, an architectural project, or a front door that catches a lot of sunlight, PVD is therefore the ideal choice. You pay more at the time of purchase, but over the years, this proves to be cost-effective.

Which brands do we carry in brass titanium PVD?
In titanium brass PVD, we carry two brands: Intersteel and Olivari. Intersteel is a Dutch brand in the mid- to premium segment, with series such as Ton (classic conical), Wing (modern sash design), and Bjorn, complemented by the Helena security hardware for the front door. Olivari is an Italian premium brand specializing in PVD hardware, with sleek series such as Lama, Onda, and Euclide. Both brands supply the titanium brass PVD finish on a high-quality core. This ensures you are choosing quality in any case.
Which brand suits you depends on your budget and taste. Intersteel is a great choice for a Dutch villa renovation where you want a premium look without the absolute top price, while Olivari focuses on luxury villas and architect projects where Italian design and the highest level of finish are paramount. Within a home, it is best to stick to one brand for a calm, cohesive look. If you are unsure between the two, our specialists are happy to help you decide. Feel free to send a photo of your interior to info@deurbeslag-expert.nl.
How do you put together a complete package?
You put together a complete package by determining which components you need for each door type, all in the same brass titanium PVD finish. For an interior door, choose a door handle on a rosette or backplate, a matching cylinder plate, and three hinges. For the front door, opt for SKG3 security hardware with core pull protection, a security rosette, and a matching cylinder, complemented by heavier hinges. For the back door, choose back door hardware on a backplate with a matching lock. This ensures every door operates smoothly and the ensemble looks cohesive.
When measuring, pay attention to the 8 mm square spindle for interior doors and the PC dimension—the distance between the handle and the cylinder—which is 55 mm for interior doors and 72 or 92 mm for front doors. For the bathroom and toilet, complete the package with a door handle and a matching WC rosette. Always consider good burglary protection for your front door, so also take a look at our collection of security hardware with the SKG quality mark.
