Brushed stainless steel doorbell button
Brushed stainless steel bell push button. Corrosion-resistant doorbell push button for thousands of presses over the years
A brushed stainless steel doorbell button is the logical choice for modern and classic facades. Stainless steel AISI 304 (18% chromium, 8% nickel) is corrosion-resistant in all common Dutch weather conditions and retains the same matte silver-grey tint for 30+ years without discoloration. The brushed finish hides fingerprints that would be immediately visible on polished stainless steel. This is especially useful on a doorbell button that is touched by visitors daily. For coastal locations within 10 km of the sea, AISI 316 marine-grade is highly recommended for chloride resistance in salty air. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 13 brushed stainless steel doorbell buttons from Intersteel, in round, rectangular, and illuminated versions for evening visibility.
Why stainless steel for your doorbell button?
A doorbell button is touched by every visitor. Over the lifespan of a home, it is pressed thousands to tens of thousands of times. With coated or gold-plated versions, wear eventually occurs in the center of the button where most finger pressure takes place. This is often visible within 5-10 years as a discolored spot. Stainless steel has no coating but a homogeneous surface that retains the same tint for decades. For people with a nickel allergy: the nickel in stainless steel is bound within the alloy and does not leach out with normal hand contact, unlike gold-plated or nickel-plated coatings. The stainless steel tint matches virtually every facade color universally: white, anthracite, brick, wooden cladding, or dark facade panels. It combines visually with other stainless steel elements on the facade: mailbox, house number, door hardware, and draftproofing.
Shapes and designs
Round Ø35-60 mm is the most classic version. It suits almost every facade style and is a safe, universal choice. Square or rectangular (typically 50×80 mm) suits modern aluminium facades and architect-designed homes with sleek geometric details. Illuminated version with integrated LED for evening visibility. Especially suitable for a front door located in a dark porch or for visitors arriving in the dark. With an integrated nameplate (plastic window that accommodates a name card) for a representative front door. Surface-mounted (mounted on the facade with a mounting plate) is the most common version. Simple installation without milling. The recessed version is milled into the facade for a completely flush finish. More work, but visually sleeker.
Dimensions and connection
Diameter Ø35-60 mm or dimensions 50×80 mm depending on the model. When replacing, check that the new push button fits existing drill holes or that you can make new holes. Fastening is usually done with an M5 or M6 stainless steel screw in a suitable plug. Masonry plug for brick, hammer plug for concrete, wood screw for wooden facade. Wiring: low voltage 8-12V via transformer (classic doorbell installation) or wireless on battery or via WiFi doorbell system. Check the drilling hole spacing before ordering. When replacing an existing doorbell button, this is crucial to ensure matching without modifications. A height of 1.3-1.5 meters above ground level is comfortably accessible for adults; for a disability-friendly front door, lower (1.1-1.3 meters) for wheelchair accessibility.
Stainless steel doorbell button in your facade
In modern villas with white plaster walls: a stainless steel push button provides a subtle silver-grey accent without becoming visually too dominant. In new builds with aluminium frames: stainless steel is the logical continuation of the aluminium material palette. In classic brick facades: stainless steel adds an understated modern accent. More contemporary than a brass doorbell button. In industrial lofts with concrete-look facades: stainless steel combines visually with steel facade details. In coastal locations within 10 km of the sea: choose AISI 316 marine-grade for chloride resistance. An investment that retains its shine over time without corrosion. For modern dark front doors (matte black, dark anthracite): a stainless steel push button adds a light accent to a dark visual canvas. An illuminated version is highly recommended for front doors in a dark porch or for evening visitors.

Installation of stainless steel doorbell button
Mark the desired height on the facade (1.3-1.5 meters above ground level for comfortable reach) and horizontal position. Hold the doorbell button against the facade to mark drilling points with a pencil. Drill with a suitable drill bit: masonry drill bit for brick, hammer drill bit for concrete, wood drill bit for wooden facades. Insert stainless steel plugs into the holes. Pull the wiring through the facade (for wired version) or mount the battery in the button (for cordless version). Attach the mounting plate with M5 or M6 stainless steel screws. Tighten manually. Click the button onto the mounting plate. Test by pressing 5 times. It should click audibly without jamming, and for illuminated versions, the LED should light up when pressed.
Maintenance of stainless steel doorbell button
Stainless steel is virtually maintenance-free: clean once a month with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap, followed by dry polishing for a sleek appearance. Avoid scouring pads, steel wool, chlorine, ammonia, and acetone. These can cause pitting corrosion, even on AISI 304. For brushed stainless steel, always follow the direction of the brush. For coastal locations: rinse with fresh water once a month to remove white salt deposits. For wired versions, check once a year whether the wiring is still making good contact. In case of contact problems, clean the connection points. For battery-powered versions: replace the battery 1-2 times a year depending on frequency of use.
