Digital door viewer
What exactly is a digital peephole?
A digital door viewer is a complete electronic visitor viewing system for your front door. It consists of a camera unit (on the outside of the door) plus a display screen (on the inside of the door). Unlike a classic peephole (where you have to put your eye against the hole and can only look straight ahead), a digital door viewer features a wide-angle camera (130° to 180°) plus motion detection and photo/video recording.
For a front door where you want to screen visitors before opening the door (especially in the evening or when someone knocks unexpectedly), this is a much safer option. For the broader securitycategory with all security elements, see the complete collection.
What positions do we perform?
The wide-angle 130° camera covers a wide field of view. You see not only who is standing directly at the door but also who is hiding to the side. Day/night vision with infrared mode for seeing in the dark. You can recognize visitors even at night. Motion detection activates the camera when someone approaches the door. No manual activation required.
Photo/video recording capabilities record visitors on an SD card. Handy for when you are away or for reviewing suspicious individuals later. For modern applications with smartphone integration (Wi-Fi modules), you can view visitors from your phone when you are not at home. How do you install a digital door spy?
Step 1: Determine if your front door already has a peephole (older front door). If so, you can use that hole for the digital viewer. Measure the hole diameter (usually 14-26mm) and choose a suitable model. Step 2: Remove the existing peephole (unscrew it) and insert the camera unit through the hole on the outside.
Step 3: On the inside, attach the display unit to the camera unit. Magnetic or screw mounting. Step 4: Insert batteries (usually 4x AA) and activate. For a front door without an existing peephole, drill a hole in the door at standard height (approx. 145-160cm) and mount the system.
Which door thickness works?
Most digital door viewers work with door thicknesses from 38mm to 110mm. Suitable for standard front doors (40-50mm) and heavier front doors. For extra-heavy front doors (110mm+) or for old-fashioned doors with a double wooden construction, choose a specific long-piece version or an extra-extension kit.
Measure your front door thickness in advance to determine the correct length of the camera unit. For the broader front door hardwarecategory with all front door elements, see the complete collection.
How does this fit into your villa security package?
For a complete villa security package, combine the digital peephole with other visitor screening elements: doorbells for announcing visitors, electronic cylinders for access control, plus security hardware with SKG3 versions for mechanical burglary protection.
For a modern villa with smart home integration, choose a digital peephole with Wi-Fi modules or integration with video doorbell systems. For the broader keypadscategory and Digital Security Door Hardware, see electronic access elements.
