What does a Burg-Wächter ENTRY 7711 Keypad do?
The ENTRY 7711 is a keypad with remote control that works with the Burg-Wächter Electronic Cylinder 5000. You enter a PIN code on the keypad to unlock the door. The remote control acts as a supplement. You can open the door without physically touching the keypad, which is handy in the rain or when your hands are full of groceries. The system runs on batteries (4 x AA in the keypad and 2 x AAA in the cylinder) that typically last 1-2 years with average use.
The Electronic Cylinder 5000 is a replacement cylinder for your existing front door. It fits in place of the standard profile cylinder. No modifications to the lock itself are required. The entire system can be installed within 30 minutes by a handy DIY enthusiast, or you can let our installation partners take care of it. For those looking for a complete keyless front door, this is an accessible entry point.
When do you choose a keypad instead of a standard cylinder?
A keypad has three main advantages over a key cylinder. First, key loss: you cannot lose your key because you no longer need to carry one around. Second, access for multiple people: one PIN code for family members, another for the cleaning staff, and yet another for relatives. Each can have their own code, and you can change or revoke them individually. Third, audit trail: you can see via an app when which code was used to open the door.
One disadvantage is the dependence on batteries. If the batteries are dead, you can no longer enter. The Burg-Wächter offers a backup key option for this: a standard key still works in the same cylinder, so you never get completely locked out. The batteries signal well in advance (red LED) that they need to be replaced, typically 2-4 weeks before they run out.
How secure is an electronic keypad system?
The Burg-Wächter Cylinder 5000 in combination with the ENTRY keypad is not SKG-certified like classic SKG cylinders. The system is focused more on convenience than on heavy burglary protection. Therefore, this is not the right choice for homes where your insurance or the Police Security Mark for Safe Living standard requires an SKG2 or SKG3 cylinder. For ordinary residential situations without insurance requirements, the system is fine.
The 4-digit PIN code itself can theoretically be guessed with 10,000 combinations. After 3 incorrect entries, the system blocks for 1 minute; after more incorrect attempts, it blocks for longer. This prevents brute-force attacks. For extra security, you can set a 6-digit PIN (1 million combinations) or combine the keypad with a high-quality SKG3 cylinder via a custom order.
What other keypads and electronic locks are there?
Our current collection includes only the Burg-Wächter ENTRY 7711, but we place orders with Yale, Salto, and Nuki for other keypad systems and smart locks upon request. Yale ENTR is a popular choice with smartphone integration. Nuki Smart Lock attaches to your existing lock without cylinder replacement. Salto KS is a more professional system for office and business applications. The delivery time for these other brands is 1-3 weeks after ordering.
For those considering standard cylinders, see cylinders in the complete category, with SKG2 and SKG3 versions from DOM, M&C, and Pfaffenhain. For specific knob cylinders that operate without a key from the inside, see knob cylinders. This is a simpler "keyless interior" solution without electronics.
How does the keypad integrate with your existing front door?
The installation proceeds in two steps. First, you replace your existing profile cylinder with the Burg-Wächter Electronic Cylinder 5000. This is identical to a standard cylinder replacement. Unscrew, remove the old cylinder, insert the new cylinder, and screw it tight. Next, you mount the keypad on the outside of the front door at a height of approximately 130-140 cm (stand at eye level). The keypad communicates wirelessly with the cylinder.
To program PIN codes, install the Burg-Wächter app on your smartphone. There you can register up to 8 different PIN codes and set the validity times for each code. The same applies to the remote control. Register via the app, open the door by pressing the button from a maximum distance of 5 meters. For a complete front door package, combine with escutcheon door hardware and optionally surface-mounted locks for extra security.
