Black Back Door Hardware Set
For many homes, the back door is the most vulnerable point for burglars. Less visible from the street, often fitted with a standard lock lacking core pull protection, and with a long wall distance to the neighbors. An SKG-approved set solves this in one go: complete burglary protection including all individual components that are perfectly matched. For those who want a certified back door without having to purchase all the individual security rosettes, core pull rings, and through bolts separately.
What is included in a set?
A complete set includes a security escutcheon or rosette for the exterior (with SKG certification and integrated steel core pull ring), a standard internal handle for the other side, through-bolts for inextricably attaching the exterior and interior, plus all screws and often a mounting template for exact alignment. An SKG cylinder is usually not included. You select this separately based on your desired key standard and SKG class.
Which SKG level do you need?
SKG**® offers 3 minutes of resistance against a targeted burglary attempt. Sufficient for most homes and the PKVW minimum (Police Quality Mark for Safe Living). SKG***® extends to 5 minutes and is mandatory for some insurance policies or in high-risk areas such as corner houses or homes with poor visibility from the street. Core pull protection. A steel ring around the cylinder that prevents a burglar from pulling it out with a screwdriver and hammer in 5 seconds. Is always included.
- SKG**® = 3 min resistance (standard, PKVW level)
- SKG***® = 5 min resistance (insurance requirement, risk area)
- Core pull protection included as standard
Which measurements do you need to know?
PC dimension (distance from handle hole to cylinder hole) is 72 or 92 mm; door thickness 38–60 mm in standard Dutch version, thicker for insulated front/back doors. Backset in the existing mortise lock 50, 55, or 60 mm. Cylinder length ranges from PC30/30 to PC30/40 depending on door thickness and whether it has an exterior or interior knob.
How do you assemble a complete set?
Follow the supplied template for exact alignment. An incorrectly drilled hole means the core pull ring is not seated straight and undermines the SKG functionality. Place the safety shield on the outside, insert the through-bolts from the inside, and attach the inner handle to them. Test whether the cylinder turns without resistance and the bolt extends smoothly. For maximum certainty: have an SKG-certified installer check the installation. This is also a requirement of some insurance policies.
Combine with your other black door hardware
For the complete back door package: SKG cylinder from black cylinder locks. For the separate backplate version: matte black back door hardware on backplate. For the separate rosette version: black back door hardware on separate rosette. For the front door: matte black front door hardware. Broader context: security hardware in all colors or front door hardware on backplate. For the complete color context: black door hardware.
Maintenance
Clean once a month with a damp microfiber cloth. Lubricate the cylinder twice a year with graphite or Teflon spray (not WD-40. That dissolves graphite and causes jamming problems over time). Test four times a year to see if the bolt swings out smoothly. If it becomes stiff, lubrication is often the solution before reaching for a new key.
