Black back door hardware on rosette loose
With a complete back door set, you get all parts at once: security escutcheon, interior handle, through bolts, and template. However, sometimes you only need a single part. For example, because only the exterior rosette is damaged after an attempted break-in, or because you want to combine a specific handle style with a different rosette brand. Individual back door parts are ideal for this: you replace exactly what is worn or damaged, without unnecessarily replacing the rest of a working set.
When do you choose separate over a set?
Three reasons. First, cost: a separate rosette or handle is cheaper than a complete set, so for repairs or partial replacement, you are better off with individual parts. Second, aesthetics: you might want to combine a specific Intersteel handle model with an Aprile rosette, or a Hardbrass interior handle with an Olivari safety escutcheon. Only individual parts offer that freedom. Third, stock: not all brands offer the exact combination you want as a complete package; buying individual parts is then the only option.
Which parts are available for separate purchase?
The outer security rosette (with SKG certification and integrated steel core pull ring), the inner handle, 8 mm square Dutch standard spindle, and the through-bolts that permanently connect both sides through the door. For an SKG cylinder, go to the separate black cylinder locks page; it is never included with separate rosette components.
- Separate outer rosette with SKG + core pull ring
- Separate internal handle, spindle 8 mm square
- Pass-through bolts for burglar-resistant mounting
How do you check compatibility?
Three dimensions are crucial for compatible hardware. The PC dimension (distance from handle hole to cylinder hole center-to-center) is 72 or 92 mm depending on your door. The backset (distance from faceplate to spindle in the lock) is 50, 55, or 60 mm. Door thickness is 38–60 mm in the standard Dutch version. When replacing, measure your old hardware; if in doubt, send a photo. Some brands have specific handle shapes that only match their own rosettes. Always check this beforehand.
Which SKG level do you need?
For a back door, the SKG quality mark is essential. PKVW (Police Quality Mark for Safe Living) requires at least SKG**® (3 minutes of resistance), as do many insurance companies. SKG***® goes up to 5 minutes and is mandatory for some insurance policies or in high-risk areas. Core pull protection on the security rosette is always built in. This consists of a steel ring around the cylinder that prevents a burglar from pulling it out with a screwdriver in 5 seconds.
Combine with your other black door hardware
For the complete package: see the ready-made black back door hardware set as an alternative. For separate backplate version: matte black back door hardware on backplate. For the front door: matte black front door hardware. For separate security rosettes: matte black security rosette. For the complete color context: black door hardware. Product type hubs: separate back door hardware on rosette in all colors or security hardware as a broader category.
Maintenance
Clean once a month with a damp microfiber cloth. Lubricate the cylinder twice a year with graphite or Teflon spray. For intensive use (office, back door that opens multiple times a day): check twice a year that the through bolts are still tight and the handle does not wobble.
