Plate diameter Ø 60-70 mm round, cylinder cross-section 30/33/38 mm, minimum 8 mm steel plate for SKG compliance, drilling distance 38 or 50 mm centre-to-centre. Anti-saw screws included. A round security rosette in antique grey is a metal plate mounted over the cylinder head of the front door, designed to protect the cylinder against core pulling attacks (the most commonly used burglary technique in the Netherlands). Featuring a classic round shape and a patinated antique grey finish that mimics the authentic appearance of decades-old hardware. Ideal for monumental homes, classic villas, and renovation projects where you want to combine modern burglary protection with a classic look that matches authentic door handles, letter plates, and cylinder rosettes elsewhere on the facade. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find 1 round antique grey security rosette from Intersteel with the SKG***® certification. 3-star compliant for villa-grade security.

What exactly does a security rosette do?

A security rosette protects the profile cylinder in an exterior door lock against three main types of attacks. Core pulling: the burglar grabs the cylinder with pliers inserted into the keyhole and pulls the cylinder out of the lock. Typically takes 30-90 seconds for unshielded cylinders. The security rosette covers the cylinder head so that the pliers cannot get a grip. Hard strike: the burglar strikes the cylinder with a hammer to mechanically damage it. The security rosette absorbs the impact and distributes the force. Pick and bump attacks: although these are technically carried out on the pins inside the cylinder, a security rosette in combination with an SKG cylinder offers additional resistance by visually deterring attempts. For PKVW-compliant burglary protection according to the Police Quality Mark for Safe Living (Politiekeurmerk Veilig Wonen), a security rosette with at least SKG**® standard is mandatory on all exterior doors.

SKG***®. 3-star villa-grade security

The SKG Foundation for Quality Facade Elements issues Dutch quality marks for burglary resistance. SKG***® (3 stars) represents a minimum of 5 minutes of resistance to burglary tools according to a strict test protocol involving more attack techniques (core pulling, pick, bump, hard-strike) than SKG**®. SKG***® is recommended for villas, corner houses, detached houses, homes in burglary-prone neighborhoods (The Hague city center, Amsterdam South, Rotterdam North), and commercial properties. For insurance policies with a burglary clause: some insurers require SKG***® on all exterior doors. Check your policy for exact requirements. For standard terraced houses and apartments where the risk of burglary is lower, the slightly lighter SKG**® version suffices.

Why old grey specifically?

Antique Grey is a patinated finish category within the Dutch classic hardware spectrum. A weathered, mottled grey shade that mimics the appearance of 50-100 year old, unpolished metal. It suits four common interior styles. A monumental building preserving authentic door handles, letter plates, and cylinder rosettes. Antique Grey does not look out of place with original hardware from the 1900s-1950s. A classic renovation where the front door (typical oak panel door) requires modern burglar resistance, but the architectural appearance must be preserved. A country home in an older architectural style (farmhouse conversion, dike house, old parsonage) where Antique Grey creates an organic connection with other natural materials (straw, brick, wood). A renovation preserving character where the new security measure may remain visually concealed. Antique Grey is less conspicuous than bright stainless steel or matte black.

Round shape versus square version

The choice between a round or square security rosette is an aesthetic decision that complements the wider shape of the door hardware on your front door. Round security rosette (this category). Matches classic door handles on a round rosette, letter plates with rounded corners, round cylinder rosettes, and a monumental appearance with organically woven elements. By far the most common shape in classic Dutch door hardware. Square version: found in the wider old grey security rosette hub with a 50×50 mm square. Matches modern office designs or Art Deco homes with clean geometric elements. For monumental homes with classic hardware: choose the round version. If in doubt: check the shape of the other rosettes on your front door and match.

Dimensions and cylinder compatibility

For correct installation. Plate diameter: 60-70 mm round. Fits standard cylinder cut-out in front door. Cylinder cross-section: rosette suitable for 30 mm cylinder head (most common in the Netherlands), 33 mm or 38 mm depending on cylinder brand. Check your existing cylinder with a ruler for the exact size. Material thickness: minimum 8 mm thick steel plate for SKG***® conformity. Thinner security rosettes do not meet the certification. Drilling distance screw holes: 38 or 50 mm center-to-center, in accordance with the Dutch standard for residential construction. Screw type: supplied anti-saw screws with chamfered head. Otherwise, a burglar could saw through the screws to remove the rosette themselves.

Combine with classic door hardware

For the complete classic package on the front door. Old grey security rosette hub for the main category with all shapes (round, square). Old grey door handles on backplate for matching door handle design in the same patinated finish. Security hardware hub for the complete security hardware range with all colours. Round tumbled brass security rosette for a warmer gold alternative with a classic look. Bronze door hardware for the warm brown classic hardware package. Antique door hardware hub for the complete antique door hardware package. For matching cylinders with SKG***® certification: cylinders hub with Pfaffenhain and other premium brands.

When does old grey not fit?

An honest comparison. Four scenarios where antique grey is less suitable. Modern, sleek homes with white stucco facades and clean lines: choose brushed stainless steel or matte black for visual cohesion. Industrial conversions and loft apartments: choose matte black RAL 9005 for a rugged industrial look. Light Scandinavian interiors: choose white RAL 9010 or bright stainless steel. Designer homes with statement elements: choose polished brass or chrome for a visually striking appearance. For classic monumental homes that retain their authentic character, antique grey remains the right choice.

Assembly

Three-step procedure. 1. Preparation: Measure the cylinder cross-section of your existing cylinder (typically 30 mm) with a digital caliper. Verify that the antique grey security rosette fits this size. Measure the drilling distance of the existing screw holes (38 or 50 mm). No re-drilling is required for replacement. 2. Installation: Remove the existing rosette by unscrewing the screws. Place the new antique grey security rosette over the cylinder head; align the screw holes with the existing holes in the door. Secure with the supplied anti-saw screws (beveled head). For secure fastening: tighten the screws evenly to prevent deformation of the rosette. 3. Test: Try operating the cylinder 5 times with the key to confirm smooth operation. Try pulling the rosette towards you manually. No movement is good (otherwise tighten the fastening). The antique grey patina is the desired appearance. Do not rub or polish.

Maintenance

Clean once a month with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth. The patinated layer is part of the aesthetics and should not be polished away. Avoid scouring pads, ammonia, acetone, and acidic cleaners. These damage the patina coating and can locally turn the appearance bright gray instead of weathered gray. For stubborn stains: use pH-neutral soap and rinse thoroughly. For PVD-coated versions: avoid alcohol-based cleaners. Check the screw fastening once a year. Anti-core pulling only works with a securely fastened rosette. With prolonged weather exposure (especially north-facing front doors exposed to rain), the patina may discolor slightly. This is normal and adds to the weathered character.
