Antique sliding door system. Classic-industrial rail for a characterful interior

An antique sliding door system has the look of industrial loft conversions and classic barn conversions: the traditional heavy metal rail profile with an antique patina finish, designed for situations where the system itself is part of the interior. Not invisible like more modern versions. Our antique sliding door systems support up to 80 kg per door, with traditional-looking roller carriages featuring modern ball bearing operation for quiet running. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find antique sliding door systems from Intersteel in antique brass and smoked antique finishes.

Why an antique sliding door system?

The appeal of antique lies in the combination of characterful appearance and modern technology. The finish. Antique bronze (warm brown-black patina) or smoked antique (darker with a deep sheen). Combined with classic hardware elements such as brass door handles, patinated hinges, and antique front door fittings. A high load capacity of 60-80 kg per door is sufficient for solid oak panel doors, classic heavy-duty doors, and barn doors made from recycled wood. The ball-bearing roller carriages beneath the traditional-looking cover plates ensure quiet operation. No grinding noise like with genuine antique rail systems from the 19th century. For those who want the rail system to be a visual part of a rustic or classic interior style, antique offers a finished end result that neither black nor stainless steel can achieve.

Versions

Basic Antique: the standard rail system in an antique finish. Simple roller carriages and mounting plates, suitable for lighter interior doors in renovation applications. Antique Bronze: warm brown-black patina that complements brass and bronze door hardware in classic villas and 1930s homes. Smoked Antique: dark finish with a deep gloss, suitable for industrial loft conversions where a rougher look is desired than glossy antique bronze. For all versions, the rail is produced in the same batch to ensure consistent patina tone. This is important because antique finishes can exhibit natural variation between batches.

Dimensions and execution

Rail length: minimum 2 × door width plus 50-100 mm extra for clearance. Load capacity 60-80 kg per door. Allow plenty of room, as solid oak panel doors weigh 25-35 kg per m² of surface area. Fixing to wall or ceiling with through screws; for heavy doors in plasterboard walls without wooden stud reinforcement, an additional anchoring beam is recommended. Standard door height 2030-2115 mm for Dutch homes. Always check the type of support: concrete, brick, or wooden beam. Before ordering mounting hardware: for wooden beam fixing, use 80-100 mm wood screws; for concrete or brick, use a suitable head plug.

Antique sliding door system in your interior

In barn door and loft conversions: antique rail on a solid wood door or recycled wood sliding door creates the complete loft look. In classic farmhouses and dike houses with cream-white walls and wooden beams: antique bronze rail complements the other natural materials and reinforces the rustic character. In warm industrial homes with concrete-look flooring, wooden elements, and black steel frames: smoked antique provides a refined counterpoint to the harder steel elements. In barn conversions where you want to preserve the original beam structure: traditional antique rail visually matches the existing timber construction and old-build elements. For classic villas with monumental panel doors where you want to add a sliding door without breaking the classic character: antique brass rail matches other classic hardware.

Maintenance of antique sliding door system

Antique finishes intentionally have a rougher texture and uneven patina. This is part of the classic character and is not a quality defect. Clean once a month with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap. Avoid scouring pads, ammonia, acetone, chlorine, and acidic cleaning agents. These irreversibly remove the patina. Specifically for antique bronze rails: do not use bronze polish, as this would remove the carefully built-up patina layer and leave you with a uniform yellow brass surface that loses its classic appearance. Vacuum dust from the rail profile once a year using a vacuum cleaner with a crevice nozzle. Lubricate roller carriage ball bearings once a year with dry Teflon spray. Never use oil (it attracts dust).
