Security hardware

With the right front door security hardware, you prevent burglars from using methods such as cylinder pulling on your home. Good security hardware covers the cylinder and reinforces the construction of your lock against mechanical pressure. We help you choose the right security shields for your exterior doors, so that you live safely and feel safe there too!

The foundation starts with selecting door hardware designed to withstand physical force. Burglars often choose the path of least resistance, and a door without the proper protection can be opened within a few seconds. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find a wide range of certified solutions.

Why security hardware for your home security?

You choose this exterior door hardware because it makes core pulling, the most common burglary method at the moment, impossible. With core pulling, a burglar screws a hardened steel screw into the cylinder to then pull it out completely with a pulley puller. Our security hardware features a steel plate covering the cylinder hole, ensuring that only the key has access and the cylinder itself remains inaccessible to tools.

In addition to protection against cylinder pulling, security hardware for the front door also protects against the cylinder being broken off. Without protective hardware, a cylinder often protrudes slightly, giving burglars the opportunity to grab it with pliers and break it. By placing a solid security shield over the cylinder, the lock becomes one with the door, and there is no longer any point of contact for burglar tools.

What is the difference between shields and rosettes?

The biggest difference lies in the way they are mounted on the door and the extent to which they cover old drill holes. A security escutcheon consists of one long plate that covers both the doorknob and the cylinder. This is the most popular option for renovations, because a escutcheon immediately conceals damage or holes from the previous hardware and reinforces the door over a large area.

Security escutcheons consist of two separate, round or square elements: one for the handle and one for the cylinder. This option is very popular for modern doors or new construction projects where a minimalist look is the goal. Both variants of this security door hardware are available with core pull protection and SKG certification. The choice between a backplate and an escutcheon is therefore primarily a matter of personal design preferences and the current condition of your door. Ensure that the internal mechanism of your door is also correct and check out our security locks!

How do you install security door hardware on an exterior door yourself?

You mount the hardware by screwing the bolts from the inside of the door fully through the lock and the door into the exterior fitting. This is an important security feature, because since no screws are visible on the outside, a burglar can never dismantle the security hardware from the door from the outside. It is necessary to drill the holes accurately according to the supplied drilling template for perfect alignment.

Before you start drilling, check the door thickness and the PC dimension of your current lock. Standard exterior door security hardware is often suitable for doors 38 to 54 millimeters thick, but extended spindles and bolts are required for extra-thick doors. By tightening the bolts and then checking that the handle and key move smoothly, you ensure that you can always count on the trouble-free operation of your new security door hardware.

Which security hardware fits your current locks?

The match with your current locks is determined by the PC dimension. This dimension shows the distance between the center of the handle hole and the center of the cylinder. In the Netherlands, a PC dimension of 72 mm or 92 mm is the standard for exterior doors. When you purchase a security escutcheon with the correct PC dimension, the cutouts align exactly with your existing cylinder and spindle.

It is also important to consider the shape of the cylinder. Almost all modern homes use Euro profile cylinders, to which virtually any security fitting fits. Do you have an older home with a different type of lock? Then we advise you to contact our experts first. We ensure that you receive a security shield that fits technically and matches the style of the rest of your home.

The benefits of a certified safety shield

Our tip? Always go for a backplate with the SKG*** logo and invest in the highest degree of burglary resistance. Such security hardware for the front door is tested and resistant to high pressure equivalent to (extremely) heavy burglar tools.

The visual aspect of this security hardware also has a preventative effect. Burglars recognize the distinctive core pull protection from a distance. The presence of this hardware on your front door is often reason enough for a burglar to skip your home and look for an easier target. For complete locking, combine the hardware with a 3-point locking system!
