Need a rosette? Find the right rosette for your door
Rosettes: the detail that finishes a door
A rosette is the round or square metal plate that you mount around the spindle, cylinder hole, or keyhole of your door. Functionally: it hides the milled recess in the wood and protects the paintwork from scratches. Visually: it is the detail that makes the difference between a finished door and one that still looks cheap despite the beautiful handle. Whether you are installing a new door handle, completing a renovation, or neatly covering a keyhole, a matching rosette is always a must.
At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find rosettes from brands such as Intersteel, Aprile, Hardbrass, Formani , and Olivari. In all common shapes, diameters, and finishes. So that your rosette visually matches your handle and the other door hardware in your home.
What types of rosettes are there?
The shape of the hole in the rosette determines which type you need. Not which lock is in front of it, but which recess must be visible through the rosette.
- Profile cylinder rosette. Round hole Ø17 mm for modern Euro profile cylinders.
- Key rosette. NL-beard shape for classic keyboard keys
- WC lock. With rotary knob and free/occupied indicator.
- WC flip. Stool and free/occupied in one.
- Blind rosette. Solid plate for unused drill holes
- Security rosette. SKG approved with core pull ring for front and back door.
- Magnetic rosette. For silent closing of interior door.
Which rosette shape do you choose: round, square, or oval?
Functionally, all shapes are identical. The difference lies purely in the visual appearance. Round rosettes (Ø50 or Ø53 mm) are the most classic and universal choice; they suit almost every door and interior style. Square rosettes (50×50 or 52×52 mm) are sleeker and more modern, ideal for minimalist new builds with geometric lines. Oval or rectangular rosettes are aesthetic choices found in contemporary Italian and Dutch design series; they provide a refined, high-quality accent. For a consistent look, choose the same shape for your handle rosette, cylinder rosette, and key rosette.
How do you measure a rosette?
Most rosettes have standard Dutch dimensions, so the choice is mainly based on shape and diameter. The most important dimensions:
- Diameter round: Ø50 or Ø53 mm
- Square: 50×50 or 52×52 mm
- Thickness: 5.7 mm for screw rosette, 8-10 mm for snap-on rosette with recessed mounting
- Cylinder bore: Ø17 mm for Euro profile cylinder
- Drilling distance: 38 mm center-to-center mounting holes
When renovating, you often choose a Ø53 mm instead of Ø50 mm to neatly cover old drill holes. With snap-on rosettes, there are no visible screws on the outside. A bottom rosette snaps over the existing fixing, and the decorative rosette rotates over it.
What difference does a security rosette make?
A standard rosette protects the wood and paintwork around the cutout; a security rosette is weighted with a hardened steel core-pulling ring around the cylinder. This ring prevents a burglar from screwing a screw into the cylinder and pulling it out of the door with a pulley puller—a burglary method that succeeds in seconds without core-pulling protection. An SKG-approved security rosette is therefore essential for your front and back doors; inside your home, a standard rosette suffices.
How do you combine rosettes with your other fittings?
For visual harmony, choose the same finish for your rosettes as for your door handles, hinges, and mortise lockfaceplates. Top brands offer complete series where the handle rosette, cylinder rosette, and key rosette have a visually identical finish. For those with different functions within a single door (cylinder lock + spindle): two matching rosettes in the same series create the calmest look.
How do you maintain a rosette?
Rosettes require little maintenance. Clean them once a month with a damp microfiber cloth and lukewarm water. Avoid scouring pads, ammonia, and acetone, as these can damage the PVD coating or lacquer layer. For matte black and matte gold: avoid alcohol-based cleaners, as these can make the matte finish locally shiny. With unlacquered brass rosettes, you can naturally allow the material to patina for added character, or polish regularly with brass cleaner to maintain the bright gold color.
