Buy door knockers for classic country house front door traditional

Door knockers are classic door elements used by visitors to announce their arrival. They consist of a metal ring or hammer shape that you strike against the door. A door knocker works ideally for a classic country house, a historic villa, or for a modern villa making a classic decorative statement. We carry models, primarily the Intersteel Round Door Knocker 107mm in unlacquered brass, lacquered, tumbled, matte nickel, and chrome finishes, plus classic Romeo and Juliet ring designs.

What exactly is a door knocker?

A door knocker is a classic decorative-mechanical element on the front door. It consists of a metal ring or hammer-shaped piece attached to a hinge on the door. Visitors lift the knocker and let it strike the door's surface. It produces an audible knocking sound to announce arrival. Unlike a modern (electric) doorbell, this is traditional and mechanical.

For a classic country house, a classic historic villa, or a modern villa with a classic decorative statement, a door knocker works ideally as a visual element. For a modern villa with a doorbell package, you can add a door knocker as a decorative element. For the broader of doorbellswith modern electric versions, see the complete collection.

What types of door knockers do we carry?

The Intersteel Round Door Knocker 107mm is the standard version. Round ring (107mm diameter) with knocking mechanism. Available in unlacquered brass (natural patina development), lacquered brass (colourfast), tumbled brass (patina), matte nickel (elegant), and chrome (glossy). Plus classic Romeo and Juliet ring designs.

The classic "Romeo and Juliet" refers to Roman tradition where couples in love used a door knocker to announce each other. This version features a round ring with decorative detailing. It works ideally for a classic villa making a romantic-historical statement.

What is the difference between brass finishes?

Unlacquered Brass is pure brass. It gradually develops a natural patina over the years, making for an authentic, aged statement. For a classic country house with classic character, the unlacquered version is ideal. Lacquered Brass has a transparent lacquer coating. It protects against patina development and retains color for years.

Tumbled Brass is intentionally patinated. Patina from installation, no waiting for natural aging. Tumbled works for those who want instant patina. For the broader Brass door hardwarecategory, see all brass elements.

Which finish suits which front door?

For a classic country house: unlacquered brass for an authentic aging statement or tumbled brass for a direct-aged look. For a classic home: lacquered brass for a warm, colorfast statement. For a modern villa with a classic accent: matte nickel for semi-matte elegance or chrome for a glossy finish.

For consistency through your front door: combine the door knocker with a matching letter plate, house numbers , and door handles in the same finish. For a specific Intersteelcategory with all versions, see the complete collection.

How do you mount a door knocker?

The door knocker is mounted on the front door at eye level (approx. 160-170cm). Typically in the top third of the door. Two screw holes through the door, secured with screws on the inside of the door. The ring or hammer hangs from a hinge attachment on the door surface. Moves freely in front of the knocking mechanism.

For those who do not want screw holes in the door (for a rental property or for the renovation of a valuable front door), there are no self-adhesive door knockers. Screw mounting is always required.
