Nickel door handles on rosette

Nickel door handles on a rosette are the most common version for modern interior doors. The handle is mounted on two separate rosettes (Ø50-53 mm round or 50×50 mm square), one for the spindle and one for the cylinder. Unlike handles on a backplate, both are visually distinct, resulting in a sleeker appearance. The models include both matte nickel and polished nickel finishes. At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find models from 5 brands: Intersteel (Ton, Helena, George, Bjorn, Sigaar, Phobos, Jupiter, Dean), Aprile (botanical series Alora/Alisso/Molinia/Oleandro/Kalmia/Fragola/Arnica/Arabis), Formani (design codes 1815-1938 with PVD), Artitec Mi Satori (Ton Premium monumental), and Olivari (Onda and versions in PVD). Electroplated or PVD. Order before 8:00 PM? Then your handle will be on your doorstep the next working day.

Do you want to give your interior doors a warm, timeless look with handles mounted neatly on separate rosettes? Then nickel door handles on a rosette are a beautiful choice. In this version, the handle sits on two compact rosettes instead of a long backplate, creating a calm, modern look. Nickel has a soft silver tone that appears slightly warmer than stainless steel or chrome, making it suitable for both a 1930s home and a sleek modern interior. It is one of the most popular and versatile options for interior doors.

On this page, we help you choose the right nickel door handle on a rosette. You can read about the difference between matte and polished nickel, between electroplated nickel and a PVD coating, and which brands we carry. We also explain which measurements to take and how to mount the handle and match it to your other hardware. This way, you know exactly what to look out for before ordering. Read on!

What exactly is a nickel door handle on a rosette?

A nickel door handle on a rosette is an interior door handle in a nickel finish that is mounted on two separate rosettes: one around the spindle and one around the cylinder or keyhole. Unlike a handle on an escutcheon, where everything is integrated into one long plate, this design presents the handle and the lock visually separately, creating a sleek and modern look. The rosettes are usually round with a diameter of 50 to 53 mm or square measuring 50 by 50 mm. Nickel has a muted, warm silver tone that suits almost any interior, making it a timeless choice for your interior doors.

At Deurbeslag Expert, you will find nickel door handles on a rosette from brands such as Intersteel, Aprile, Formani, Artitec, and Olivari, in matte and polished nickel. The collection ranges from affordable residential handles to premium versions with a titanium PVD coating. If you would like to take a broader look at all the versions and colors, view our collection of door handles on a rosette. This way, you can immediately see which handle suits your door.

What is the difference between matte nickel and polished nickel?

The difference between matte nickel and polished nickel lies in the shine of the finish. Matte nickel has a muted, satin silver appearance without reflection, on which fingerprints are less noticeable; it pairs beautifully with a sleek, modern, and contemporary interior. Polished nickel is polished and has a soft, warm silver sheen that looks slightly more classic than matte and warmer than chrome. As a result, polished nickel fits beautifully with Art Deco and 1930s homes with other polished hardware. Which one you choose depends mainly on your interior style.

For new builds and sleek homes, matte nickel is generally the most beautiful choice, while for a classic or monumental renovation, you would be more likely to opt for polished nickel. For a calm and cohesive look, it is best to choose a single finish and apply it consistently throughout your entire home. With polished nickel, keep in mind that you will need to wipe away water droplets and fingerprints more frequently. If you are unsure between the two, consider your other hardware and the atmosphere in your home. Our advisors are happy to help you decide.

What is the difference between electroplated nickel and PVD nickel?

The difference between electroplated nickel and PVD nickel lies in the coating technique and lifespan. Electroplated nickel is a vapor-deposited nickel layer on a solid brass or steel core, with a hardness of approximately 600 to 800 HV. For an interior door that is not exposed to sun or rain, this is more than sufficient and, moreover, affordable. PVD nickel is a premium technique in which titanium nitride is applied to solid brass under vacuum, with a hardness of 4000 to 4500 HV. This layer is many times more scratch-resistant and remains colorfast for fifteen years or longer.

In practice, electroplating on a heavily used door may show slight discoloration after a few years, whereas PVD remains unchanged for years. Therefore, electroplating is perfectly adequate for a standard interior door, while for a long-term investment or a frequently used door, you are better off choosing PVD. Intersteel, Aprile, and Artitec generally work with electroplating, while Olivari and certain Formani models feature a PVD coating. This allows you to choose the right level for each situation. If you are unsure, our specialists will be happy to assist you.

Which brands and models do we carry?

We carry five brands of nickel door handles on rosettes, each with its own position. Intersteel has been the Dutch residential construction standard since 1959, with the widest range, from the classic Ton Basic with an ebony detail to sleek modern models such as the Bjorn, George, and Dean. Aprile is a Polish brand with Italian design and a botanical series with names like Alora, Molinia, and Oleandro, plus knob handles like the Tuja and Querca. This ensures there is a suitable handle for every budget and style.

For the premium segment, there are Formani, Artitec, and Olivari. Formani represents Dutch design work with collections named after architectural eras, such as the 1815 and 1910 series, some featuring a PVD coating. Artitec Mi Satori focuses on monumental renovations, and Olivari is the Italian premium brand with models like the Onda in polished nickel titanium PVD, Cradle-to-Cradle certified. If you are unsure whether to choose an affordable option or a premium one, our specialists are happy to help you decide. For matching rosettes, please view our collection of nickel rosettes.

What measurements do you need and how do you assemble the stool?

For a nickel door handle on a rosette, you need the spindle, the drilling distance, the backset, and the door thickness. For an interior door, the spindle is standard 8 mm square, the Dutch standard. The drilling distance between the screw holes is usually 38 mm center-to-center, and the backset of the lock in residential construction is typically around 50 mm. The rosette diameter is Ø50 to 52 mm round or 50 by 50 mm square. With these dimensions, you can be sure that the handle fits your door and your lock.

Installation is easy to do yourself. Slide the square spindle through the handle hole of the mortise lock, place a handle on both sides, and secure it with the set screw. Then mount the rosettes with the supplied M4 screws, or click them into place for a concealed version. Finally, test whether the handle springs back smoothly without play; if there is play, tighten the set screw slightly. If you are replacing an existing handle, first measure your drilling distance so you do not have to drill again. If you are unsure about the size, send a photo of your door to info@deurbeslag-expert.nl.

How do you coordinate it with your other seizures?

The best way to coordinate a nickel door handle on a rosette is to match the nickel shade and rosette shape to your other hardware. Combine the handle with matching key and cylinder rosettes, hinges, and locks in the same finish so that the entire door looks like a unified whole. For example, if you choose matte nickel and a round finish on one door, carry that theme through to all your interior doors. This creates a calm, cohesive look throughout your home. It appears neat and well-thought-out, even when guests come over.

When mixing brands, please note that matte and polished nickel differ visibly from each other, so maintain the same finish within a single door. If you prefer a more classic look with a larger visible element, you can also consider a backplate version; view our collection of nickel backplate door handles.
