Matte chrome front door hardware

Matte chrome front door hardware is a security escutcheon with SKG certification in a semi-matte chrome finish. The escutcheon covers the cylinder against mechanical attack and provides anti-core pulling protection. We carry Intersteel versions in PC72 oval with SKG3.

What does a safety shield do?

A standard cylinder rosette is purely decorative. A security shield is hardened, features anti-drilling pins, and core pull protection. The latter prevents a burglar from pulling the cylinder out of the lock with pliers, a common burglary method that would otherwise succeed within seconds.

SKG2 or SKG3?

SKG2 stands for the Police Quality Mark for Safe Living level and offers 3 minutes of resistance. For most terraced and mid-terrace houses, this is sufficient, and it is accepted by insurers. SKG3 is villa-grade with 5 minutes of resistance and is intended for detached houses, corner houses, and locations with a higher risk of burglary. When in doubt: SKG3 is always safer.

Oval or square shield?

Oval has rounded corners and suits more classic front doors. Square is sleeker and more geometric and fits better with minimalist front doors. Both offer the same security; the choice is purely visual.

What do you combine it with?

A security escutcheon works in conjunction with an SKG cylinder. An escutcheon without a certified cylinder is not secure: always choose a combination.
